Finding the right fit

When your shopping for shoes, it's not always the first one you try on. You try them on, make sure your foot fits, you walk around a bit and see if it's comfortable.

Believe it or not, car seat and carriers are the same way. The first one you grab is not always the right fit  for you. Here on some tips!

CARSEATS

- With many makes and models of both cars and car seats, you may have to do some shopping around. Take the car seat you choose, bring it to your car and see if it fits. Yes, it has happened that a RF (rear facing) convertible car seat is too long for a little two door car. So why be stuck with a shoe that doesn't fit??

- Do some research. Read reviews online. Find out what other parents/caregivers are saying! I can tell you which ones I like, but finding a couple of different opinions will help you decide!

- Make sure you check out ALL the features of the seat. I know of some bucket seats where the straps tighten in the back...and it's really a pain. Be sure that you are comfortable and you like the seat!

- I always recommend finding something with a high rear facing weight - at least 40 lbs, and a high forward facing weight limit - at least 65 lbs. This way you have the choice to do extended rear facing and extended 5-point harness ((which i highly recommend!))

   What brand do I buy?

Just like everything in this world, there are about a million choices. Ya, sorta sucks, but that's just the way it is. Do your research. I am particular to a couple of brands ( Britax, Peg Perego) but i've worked with these brands and the companies, i've done research on these and i feel very comfortable recommending them. That's not to say though, that there are other brands that other people like. If you go onto any car seat forum, people might be saying something great about another brand they really like .

Please remember - this is your baby, your child going into this seat. You may never go through the crash experience, but it only takes one tiny second to change your whole world. DON'T just buy the first one you see, or the cheapest one. Take the time.

BABY CARRIERS

Like shoes, and like car seats - there are many different styles, brands and types of carriers that you can buy. Buckle, straps, wraps, stretchy fabric, woven, weaves, slings, pouches.... it goes on and on. And like finding the right car seat, sometimes it takes a bit to find the right fit for you. Then once you find something you like, you might have to find another one for your partner/other care giver because it fits differently on different body types.
